Employee Spotlight: Meet Tim

Q: What is your current role at Sertifi? What are some of your job responsibilities?
A: Right now, I’m a Staff Accountant, dealing with everything that is billing related, whether it is just creating the invoices for new opportunities, or adjusting invoices with upgrades and downgrades for customers. I’m also working on implementing a better payroll process and just managing the internal payments that are going to vendors.

Q: When and why did you join Sertifi? Anything specific about Sertifi that really drew your attention when you applied?

A: I joined Sertifi in January, so it’s been five months now. I’ve lived in the city for five years but it’s my first time working in the city. What really drew me was the culture of the company and the growth of the company. Everyone is on the same page in terms of understanding where the company is at. It’s not like we are a two or three-year-old company, but you still have that startup feel for a company that’s been here for a while. It’s just the openness between different departments, and the not-so-strict feeling of being in the office — that sense of wanting to come into work and being happy about it — that drew my attention.

Q: What advice would you give our new hires to excel in their positions?
A: I think the biggest thing is about being open. Be ready to learn, be ready to challenge, and I think the company is accepting of that. Come into work every day and work your hardest, so everyone is going to accept that you do that and will be able to work with you. That’s the biggest key, and I think you will find success in that.

Q: What is your most unforgettable experience working at Sertifi
A: Everyone has been pretty open and accepting of me. I’ve challenged people, and everyone is okay with me. I think that’s what you need in a company. For me, it’s the experience of doing my best to help the company grow. It’s just something that you look forward to doing every time you join a company.

Savvy Accountant, Music Enthusiast, and Marathon Runner.

Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned from working at Sertifi? How did you come to the realization?
A: It’s something that I’ve known but have realized the more and more I’ve worked. Communication and collaboration between departments are really important. You have a lot of companies that are continuing to grow, and that means a lot of change across the whole company. So, everyone working together, being on the same page, knowing that we are heading in the same direction, and not trying to fight each other over the change that comes with everything is the biggest key to success.

Q: What is something that you are passionate about?

A: I really enjoy music. Live music is one of my favorite things to do, so I go to probably 15 to 20 concerts a year ath the minimum. Whether it’s with a group of friends or by myself, I think there’s not much that beats live music. I’ve seen the WHO, a band I grew up listening to with my parents. You think you would never see them, but they just came to town. Things like that remind me of what got me into music in the first place.

Q: Is there something that you’ve always wanted to try but never did in your life?
A: I used to have a goal of running a marathon, and now I got to run my third. For some reason, my next goal is to run the six major marathons across the whole world. That makes me want to travel more and continue to run. Training is pretty aggressive because there are some other races that you have to qualify for, but running is one of my biggest passions.

Q: Who do you admire the most and why?

A: I would say my family. They are my idols. My parents and grandparents have taught me to have a selfless mind and treat others ahead of myself to make sure everyone around me is happy. Or my brothers who have been through a lot with me and are always ambitious in their lives. Seeing what they are accomplishing makes me happy, and I idolize them for that.
