Sertifi Helps Gives Back to the La Perla Community in Puerto Rico

IHG and Sertifi helped give part of the La Perla community a makeover.

It’s been a busy year for the Sertifi team. Over the past few months, our team has had the opportunity to travel both across the country and abroad attending events and connecting with professionals in the Hospitality and Salesforce markets. While these events tend to be focused around building relationships, when the opportunity arises to give back to a local community, our team loves getting involved.

A couple of months ago, a few Sertifi team members attended the IHG Technology Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico and participated in a community outreach project. Each year, IHG looks for a nearby underserved neighborhood where their conference is held to host a volunteer opportunity. Conference goers spend the first part of the conference giving back to the local community. One area that needed attention was the La Perla neighborhood in Old San Juan.

La Perla, which is Spanish for “the pearl,” is a neighborhood located in the historic district of Old San Juan. It’s adjacent to several famous attractions in the area making it a unique neighborhood steeped in history that goes back to the 19^th century.

While Puerto Rico has recovered in some ways due to the strong resilience of the residents, unfortunately, there are many communities that are still experiencing the devastating effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Members of IHG brought together a group of conference attendees to go to La Perla and help clean up the area. Volunteers removed debris, landscaped, and planted nearly a dozen trees to create a communal space that kids and adults could enjoy.

Spencer Millard, Account Executive at Sertifi, says, “I think it’s absolutely awesome that the IHG team does a ‘Tech Gives Back’ activity the first day of their conference every year. The community outreach makes an impact and helps others in need. It’s a great way to build a bond between people who work together professionally for a greater good bigger than themselves. This year, in particular, having the opportunity to help the community of La Perla in Old San Juan was eye-opening and rewarding. Going forward, I hope Sertifi participates in the IHG Tech Conference and their ‘Tech Gives Back’ volunteer program on a yearly basis!”
